History

The old walls of this hotel have seen much and have many tales to tell of olden days.

The “Lammwirt”, as it was known, first appears in the history books in the early 1600s. It was a place where travelers could rest and refresh themselves, pass on their news, find a bed for the night and feed and water their horses. Even in those days it was a significant meeting place for important figures – the renowned baroque painter Paul Troger was one of many people who are known to have stayed here. Later, the guesthouse was honored by a visit from the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef, who stayed here on 19th September 1886, making it one of the most distinguished establishments in the Puster Valley.

In 1923, the richly traditional “Prünstlerhof – Lammwirt” was acquired by the Heiss family. From the very start the guests prized the excellent food provided by the hostess and the warm, personal atmosphere of the historic pub. In the 1950s Josef Heiss’ children took over the guesthouse and having renovated and modernized it, they continue to run it along tried and tested lines.
This means that great value is placed on personal attention to guests’ wishes. The importance of tradition and comfort is still writ large today.
